CHICAGO
ECHOES...
Chicago's
AAMA meeting had a strong international flavor. We savored acupuncture
from Europe to Asia with a strong American twist. From Brussels
(Dr Beyens) to Japan (Dr Yamamoto), they came and danced to the
tune of internationalism. Lest we forget and things get out of
hand, Dr Craig and Dr Helms were there to remind and warn us of
the past when there was nothingness! The Drake Hotel, a towering
landmark of sophistication, wined and dined us to our jubilation.
Even the Medical Acupuncture j ournal celebrated a new cover.
The new Board Members made their promises, and we left feeling
that there was arising sun for acupuncture, and it was not just
for a few, but for all of us.
This exciting edition of the journal
contains a melange of articles of contemporary interest. "Author's
Instructions" are now revised and needed changes made. Please
read carefully and heed! The journal must and will become catalogued
by the National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE). This is a process
that only we, the membership, can achieve together. It is not
easy, and will not happen overnight. Yet we have no choice but
to move in this direction.
Publication is a significant accomplishment
for the author and most importantly, it must lend itself fit to
be read. My goal is to press on with a staff that is user-friendly.
I will always need your help to make this a successful publication.
Depend on me, and depend on us! That should be part of our spirit.
We welcome and encourage your article, paper, abstract, case report,
and book review submissions.
Ms Roz Royal has dedicated herself to
the daunting challenge of getting a journal out, and batding the
friction of this effort. Without Roz, the task would be awesome
and I would still be thumbing my way through despair. To assist
her in this end, Ms Stacy Christiansen, Copy Editor, has recently
joined our small staff. Welcome, Stacy! Thanks, also, to Mrs Jody
Gatewood for the tedious typing of manuscripts and other chores.
The Brits? Combining journals is still
a feasible goal. Until this happens, we will continue to build
our own strong publication. We must be humble about the way our
journal is favorably evolving, and remind ourselves that the process
is always a reversible one.
Finally, I wish to acknowledge and thank
everybody for their support. I recently left Edwards Air Force
Base for the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, where I will put
together their first division of complementary medicine with emphasis
on taking care of oncology patients. A formidable chal lenge even
for military medicine, and one I welcome, anticipate excitedly,
and am grateful for.
Kindest
regards,
Richard Niemtzow, MD, Phl), MPH
